Wind farms in Idaho have been a big deal in the news over the last couple of years, and while there are some for it, more residents seem to be against having them. While wind farms have pros and cons, the same can also be said for solar panels. There are solar panel farms all over the Gem State, and it has some farmers upset to see them taking up space in fields. Solar energy is growing rapidly in the country, and Idaho is no different. Instead of solar panel farms or wind farms, there is a better solution that many in Idaho would benefit from and support.

Solar panels can be extremely cost-efficient, but some are against them and prefer their energy the old-fashioned way. It doesn’t matter if you are for or against them though, we can all agree that solar panel farms and wind farms are taking over farmland, and in a state full of farmers, that doesn’t work so well. There is a way to make everyone happy and to use solar panels in a way that doesn’t take up agricultural land, as well as benefits the citizens of Idaho in multiple ways, other than only energy. 

Where Solar Panels Should Be in Idaho

During the summer in Idaho, finding anywhere to be cool and in the shade is like finding an oasis. There is a way to use solar panels to offer shade, cool off cars, and supply energy all at the same time. As the picture above shows, putting panels in big parking lots helps shade cars that sit in the lot, helps those looking for shade, and could supply energy for the buildings surrounding the area. Imagine having these in Walmart, Target, Costco, or even mall parking lots. They would work for multiple purposes, and help keep residents out of the sun when walking to and from buildings. They would also help keep people dry during the rain, and help during those long winters and snowfalls. 

While some would rather see solar panels go away altogether, that isn’t going to happen. Instead of having them take up precious agricultural land, why not put them in parking lots and let them serve a dual purpose and benefit everyone in some form?
